MOVIE mania hit Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday as it hosted a film festival to showcase young talents’ work.
Among the glitterati who had attended the event was Brunei’s very own international star, Wu Chun, who was also the appointed ambassador for UBD Film Festival.
“Bruneians are talented. With this much talent, who knows I can get them (filmmakers) involved with overseas production,” said Wu Chun on the screening of various short films at the event.
The actor, who is also the the author of his own biography, Ignite Courage, also shared his take on what it took to be in the industry.
“It’s all about attitude — you have to be humble and committed. You have to make mistakes, and then learn from them which will improve your skills.”
Meanwhile, the lecturer responsible for facilitating the festival, Chris Woo, told The Brunei Times commended the AC-4308, Professional Communication and Event Design students for their role in organising the event.
“The success of this event is completely done by the students,” he said.
“Any student planning to take this module should have guts and be able to work independently… but I guarantee any student who takes this module will go out there as a professional of communication and events.”
Other names present at the event were representatives from Origin Studio, who are showcasing the trailer for the company’s feature film, Yasmine, and Creative Academy of the Narrative and Dramatic Arts and Sciences (CANDAS), who are ready to create a platform for any interested part-takers in the industry.
For anyone interested, the festival will have its last day today, showcasing eight short films, which include Roast Lamb, Inside The Room and Letting Go to name a few at the Core Residential College main building. Show commences at 10am and admission is free.
The event — sponsored by Baiduri Bank, GHK Motors Sdn Bhd, CANDAS and Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) — aims to encourage young, local aspiring film makers to showcase their creativity as well as to raise awareness on the importance of supporting the local talents.
