FITNESS aficionados can now look forward to a new hotspot, one that features am extensive range of exercise equipment and activities.
The largest gym in the country, Fitness Zone, is expecting to welcome 1500 new members once their new facility opens in Kiulap later this year.
The company's Kiulap branch houses a massive multipurpose court, two new fitness studios, a new rock climbing machine and three stories of fitness equipment.
It is scheduled to open in August, with the gym's famous owner, actor-singer Wu Zun, making an appearance.
The gym currently has 800 existing members, and runs a workforce of 30 administrative and training staff.
Fitness Zone has banked its success on the increasing health and fitness consciousness of the sultanate's people.
One of its main attractions is its licensed Les Mills classes that were said to have started the fitness phenomena in the capital.
With catchy class names like Body Combat, Body Jam, Body Pump and Body Balance, these classes combine more than one form of activity in each class, such as Body Balance, combining Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates.
The company also offers other types of fitness classes that are conducted by qualified trainers, in addition to the Les Milles programme.
These include Yoga, Pilates, Ballroom and Latin classes and a cycling class, another of the gym's more popular features.
A new Fitness Zone member, who declined to be named, said that the new facilities persuaded her to join.
"Before I saw the new facility in Kiulap I always thought that their prices were very high, much too pricey for the facilities they were offering in The Mall," she mused.
The new facilities changed this perception. "Now after seeing the new building, I've signed up and the price now seems fairly reasonable." The introduction of new facilities means higher rates, however.
A Fitness Zone administrative staff, who wished to remain anonymous, said that those joining the establishment from August onwards will face increased membership rates.
The new rates will be about 20 percent more than the previous ones, the staff added.
