THE Empire theatre was in a frenzy last night as hundreds of screaming fans greeted the Taiwan-based, Brunei-born heartthrob, Wu Chun, who is in Brunei to promote his movie Butterfly Lovers.

Accompanying him on stage was Charlene Choi, or Ah Sa, wearing a purple peasant shirt which portrayed her to be every inch the Hong Kong superstar.

Their movie is based on the Chinese legend of two star-crossed lovers with an oriental twist to the western Romeo and Juliet.

Damien Hiew and Mei Ting, who is also a local deejay at Pilihan FM, hosted the event. The duo entertained the audience with questions to the fans on what they love most about Wu Chun.

"He's cute!" yelled a fan in the audience.

"He's hardworking!" yelled another voice.

Amongst the crowd were contestants of Passport To Fame (P2F) who attended the event to draw inspiration from the heartthrob who put Brunei on the map.

The P2F contest, which was organised by Radio Television Brunei (RTB) and GreenCity Concept, aims to discover, develop and promote new talents, who can showcase Brunei's hidden talents to the entertainment business internationally.

The Brunei Times managed to interview the contestants on their thoughts on the success of the Brunei-born Taiwanese superstar.

An aspiring rock singer who wants to be known as Aming, was awed by the fact that Wu Chun was from Brunei.

He said that he admires Wu Chun's character in the movie and was impressed by the Kung Fu skills he displayed.

Qeez, a fellow contestant, said she was inspired by Wu Chun's success. She said she had heard that his fame did not come overnight.

"I was told that he worked very hard and that he followed his dream and never stopped."

She added that she hopes one day she can be as famous someday. "Well, I can at least try," she said.

The event ended with the stars distributing gifts to selected lucky fans.

Also in attendance last night was Wu Chun's father and other members of his family.

After the session at the Empire theatre, the stars were then brought to The Mall Cineplex to meet with fans.

According to the organisers, the two will leave today at 11.30am.
