FITNESS Zone, Brunei's leading health and fitness club, will be organising a charity sports carnival from August 9 to 12. It is in celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 63rd birthday.
The 2009 Fitness Zone Charity Sports Carnival will be held at the parking area of its premise in Kiulap. The main highlight would be the Zone Race Level 2. This is the second time the race is being held after its inaugural event last year. However, this year's activity is more meaningful, as it is the first charity programme to be organised by the club where donations and proceeds will go to the Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA).
Other activities lined-up for the four-day carnival include the finals of basketball, futsal and badminton games, charity bazaar featuring 30 booths, games for the underprivileged kids and a charity auction. There will also be a special appearance by Brunei's actor/singer Wu Chun, who also owns the club, in a meet the fans session.
"The main agenda of this event is to raise funds. At the same time, we also intend to encourage public to take up sports and promote healthy lifestyle," said Ali Sahrin Ahmad, Operations Manager of Fitness Zone. He added that they also hoped to promote Brunei tourism.
The event is supported by the Youth and Sports Department of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. Fitness Zone currently has more than 5,000 members.
