The first ever ActionFest in Asheville, NC ended earlier this week with an awards ceremony that included Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Chuck Norris turning down his award. He handed off the award to his brother, action filmmaker Aaron Norris, and dedicated the passed-off trophy to the action industry’s unsung heroes—stuntmen, stunt choreographers, and 2nd Unit Directors. Speaking in a statement on the genre fest’s first installment, co-founder Bill Banowsky said, “I’m grateful we’ve created an event that celebrates these behind the scenes professionals who put the “action” in action movies. It’s recognition that’s long overdue.”

RISING ACTION STAR
Marko Zaror – star of both “Mandrill” and “Undisputed III”
Film jurors Drew McWeeny (Hitfix.com), Devin Faraci (chud.com), Colin Geddes (Toronto Midnight Madness), and Todd Brown (twitchfilm.net) deliberated with Jury President Chuck Norris to pick the true standouts of the festival, ultimately surprising everyone by throwing “Undisputed III,” a non-competition film, into the mix. Juror Devin Faraci put it best: ‘If there’s one thing Chuck Norris taught us, it’s that sometimes you have to take action to right a wrong. And it would have been wrong for the jury to ignore the awesomeness of ‘Undisputed III.’”
