The inaugural Brunei Edutainment Wonderland, aimed at providing children with education and entertainment in one convenient carnival-like venue was officially opened yesterday in the heart of the capital.

Present to officiate the event was Dato Paduka Haji Abd Salam bin Haji Abd Momin, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, in his capacity as the guest of honour.

In his welcoming remarks, Dato Paduka Haji Abd Salam urged members of the public to take advantage of this unique fun-fair atmosphere, not only to learn but also have fun with their families and friends during the year-end holiday season.

"The application of edutainment concept is a good initiative because the event will not only serve to educate but help facilitate social interaction by instilling awareness and develop useful skills and life learning lessons," he explained.

He lauded the organiser as well as participating roles of NGOs and several ministries that are supporting and conducting several activities that are important for public awareness campaigns during the three-week event.

"The activities that will be conducted at the Brunei Edutainment Wonderland 2011 are certainly important and relevant to the public at large as part of a holistic approach to promoting good health and well-being for our people.

''Furthermore, the programmes provide a wonderful opportunity for families to spend more quality time together over the school holiday season. Spending quality time is something very valuable to all families."

Meanwhile, Pengiran Salleh Ab Rahaman bin Pengiran Haji Damit, representing Event Manager Sunlit Advertising Sdn Bhd also delivered a welcoming note during the afternoon ceremony.

He informed that the event is being staged to provide a unique all-encompassing experience that offers meaningful activities combining awareness and enjoyment during the school and seasonal holiday time, and especially aims at promoting positive values amongst the youth.

Pengiran Salleh Ab Rahaman also presented a memento to the guest of honour followed by a tour of nearly-5000-square-metre venue at the parking area of the Riverview Hotel parking area.

Also present at the opening ceremony were representatives of the participating government ministries, non-government organisations and charity associations, and private sector companies that will be conducting public awareness campaigns, charity sales, camps and classes as well as a wide assortment of other activities for the event's duration. Also making an appearance at the event was Wu Chun, Brunei's famous artiste.

The Brunei Edutainment Wonderland will run from December 9 to 31. The entrance ticket costs $6, and this allows visitors into all the four featured theme parks. Meanwhile, children can have a free pass at the Kid's Bouncer and entry for a lucky draw.

The opening hours are from 10am to 10pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and 11am to 11pm on Fridays to Sundays. As there is limited parking available at the event venue, a convenient daily shuttle bus service will be provided for the public with pick-up points at the Taman Jubliee Perak Car Park and the car park across from the Royal Regalia Building.
