THERE is good news for streetball fans as the KFC Fitness Zone 3-on-3 Streetball Challenge is back!

KFC and Fitness Zone renewed their partnership during a signing ceremony at the latter's basketball court in Kiulap yesterday, following their success on holding four legs last year, .

There will once again be four legs scheduled for this year with the first to be held in March followed by June, September and December respectively.

All legs will be held at the Airport Mall in Berakas and each tournament will differ from the other.

The first leg will run from March 22-31 and a cybergame competition will be held parallel to the main event.

There will be three categories contested open, student and the new introduced ladies categories.

Entry fee is set at $240 for the open category while the student and ladies categories are only required to pay $200.

Apart from the one-on-one challenge, slam dunk competition and three-point shootout, a skills challenge is also set to be introduced.

Entry forms will be available at all Fitness Zone outlets and at three KFC outlets Gadong Central, Airport Mall and Seria from Feb 8.

There will also be sales opportunities with the availability of booths.

The renewal of the partnership agreement also saw the initiation of 'Hopes in the Hoop' project.

Part of this initiative will see both KFC and Fitness Zone together with their event partners visit schools and hold road shows to promote the game.

"With this project, our aim is to work with various organisations to give hope to basketball so that it can inspire hope to others," said Wu Chun, Managing Director of Fitness Zone.

"I started basketball when I was young in school, with Michael Jordan as my role model. Partly where I am today comes from many important lessons which I have learnt from basketball, one being to never give up," he said.

"We hope that sharing some of these testimonies, others can see basketball in a different way and we hope that they will fall in love with it, just as we did," he added.

Both Good Game Event Management & Advertising and Trinity Advertising & Event Management have also been roped in to make the tournaments better.

"This year we have a new team with more experience and dedication to help us bring the game to the next level," said Jonathan Bong, Senior Marketing Manager of KFC.

"Basketball has always played second fiddle in a football loving nation but it has a lot of potential to be developed into a fun activity that brings families together, especially 3-on-3 which is easier to pick up," he added

Proceeds generated will go to various charities in the Sultanate at the end of the year.
