Taiwanese quartet Fahrenheit pumps up the heat with its long-awaited concert

IT has been a long wait. The Fahrenheit Fantasy World Tour Live in Malaysia concert, earlier scheduled for Nov 15 last year but had to be postponed due to Jiro Wang’s leg injury, finally happened last Saturday.

The boys made it up to their Malaysian fans for the delay with a fantastic display of energy and style at the Stadium Putra, Kuala Lumpur.

And the fans, which apparently included those from Brunei (Wu Zun’s hometown), Singapore, Hongkong, China, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Korea and Japan, reciprocated with an almost non-stop offering of flowers and gifts and screams to their idols.

Fahrenheit, comprising Wu Zun, Wang, Calvin Chen and Aaron Yan, did not only sing the band’s own songs but also those of other singers, including English ones such as My Girl and Uptown Girl and a Cantonese number, Jacky Cheung’s Am Luen Lei (Secretly in Love with You).

They also showed a more sentimental side with songs like Yi Ke Ren Liu Lang (Wandering Alone) and Yi Lu Shang You Ni (With You Along).

To be honest, the boys’ vocals still need some work as they were often drowned by the loud music and at times, not quite reaching the high notes. But their fans didn’t seem to mind the shortcomings and lapped up everything the guys threw at them.

Those included mostly fast, danceable numbers that go hand-in-hand with the boys’ many changes of costumes ranging from the futuristic to Broadway, in addition to some skilful play at wielding long sticks in the form of light sabres, swords and even the nunchucks.

The four also showcased their individual talents with Chen performing a stint on the beat-box while Yan mesmerised the crowd on the piano.

In turn, Wang rocked the crowd with some nifty guitar-playing, encouraging them to get up and rock along. He was so into the moment that at the finale, his guitar strap snapped and he collapsed on stage and had to be helped on his feet by his teammates.

Last but not least, Wu demonstrated his expertise on the Japanese Taiko drums. It was said that in order to master the drums, Wu practised until his hands bled.

"I will continue to study the art and hope to improve in the future," he said modestly.

Perhaps to compensate their patient fans, the boys added something new to their concert here. In addition to singing their old hits, they also sang some new songs and even invited a special guest artiste – label-mate Jade Liu, winner of the third season of the Super Girl contest in China.

Best of all, four – not one – lucky girls who were contest winners had the chance to hold hands with the boys on stage and to be serenaded by them.

After over three hours of dancing, singing and charming their Malaysian fans off their feet, Fahrenheit finally took its final bow.

The Fahrenheit concert is organised by Big Events.
