Enjoying themselves: The children from Kaca were treated to a wonderful day of activities organised by The Fitness Zone yesterday.
NOT only do physically able people enjoy a workout in the gym but some special needs children are also having the similar desire to do some exercise to keep themselves always fit, as witnessed yesterday.
The Fitness Zone Gadong branch at The Mall welcomed more than 60 special needs children including their guardians and volunteer teachers from the Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Cacat (Kaca) to participate in their "Father's Day" Celebration.
As far as cheerful and smiling faces of these special children were evident as they were showed and treated to fascinating activities by some of the professional physical fitness instructors from Fitness Zone.
That was when one of the volunteer teachers of Kaca, Hjh Fauziah Awg Besar, responded to The Brunei Times how happy she was when they were invited to take part in these activities.
"This was the first time for these children to be invited to come and use some of the gym facilities in such an exclusive gymnasium," she said. She continued by saying that this joint initiative came through the efforts of some students from Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan (MSPSBS) and The Fitness Zone.
She continued that this sort of kindness gave these special children an opportunity to have more exposure on how to use some exercise machines, aerobic equipment and other facilities that were available at Fitness Zone.
"When I first thought of a gym, I thought it would be dangerous as some of the equipment are made of steel and are indeed heavy and it would not be suitable for these children," she said.
But, she was surprised that all of the equipment were mostly user friendly, ergonomic and very safe to use even for these special children.
"I felt happy when these kids played around with the big belly-ball, kicking a punching bag, rolling over on a cushion floor mat and using some of the facilities with a supervision of some qualified instructors," she said.
Hjh Fauziah said that she really appreciated the kindness given by The Fitness Zone to give them this exposure.
Dolex Dante, supervisor of Fitness Zone said that they are welcoming any charitable organisation to take part in activities that would benefit these childrens overall development.
