FITNESS Zone has stepped forward to help the victims of tsunami in Japan with a charity programme.

Yesterday, the club owner, Wu Chun, made his way to the Japanese Embassy in Kg Kiulap to handover donation to the Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Noriki Hirose as well as to sign the condolence book.

Currently for the charity programme, the club is offering one month membership for $60 which is half the normal price.

"The whole amount collected for this campaign will go to charity. This is not only for members as they can also buy it as a gift for their loved ones. So they will not only be contributing to the fund, but giving the gift of health to their friends and family. The benefit goes both ways," said Wu.

Furthermore, donations of over $100 would receive certificates.

Fitness Zone has also been collecting donations through the early booking system for their popular "Les Mills" classes where participants can donate a small amount to book their spot in the class.

This is not the first time that the international superstar has committed to aid. Previously, he held a similar campaign for China's Sichuan quake victims.

In light of his charitable efforts, fans from around the world have been sending donations through bank transfers.

"I'm really touched that the fans from overseas have reached out and expressed a wish to donate. I am grateful to them for showing such generousity and helping the affected people," stated Wu, adding: "I was very concerned about my fans in Japan and I did try to find out if any of them were affected. I haven't heard anything yet as most of them live in Osaka and Tokyo, some distance away from the affected areas."

He asserted: "This week I'm supposed to fly there to do some film promotions and meet the fans, but in light of the situation, my management and I have decided to postpone the event."

Wu added that it was his late mother who influenced him to do a lot of good deeds.

"I hope I can inspire others to do the same. This disaster is not a short term project. So we may extend it if people wish to donate or if there is still a need for it." The Brunei Times
