SENIOR citizens in the vicinity of Lambak Kanan National Housing Scheme now have more reasons to head down to the Senior Citizen Activities Centre located at Jalan 77 after the centre has its own gym area thanks to the contribution of fitness equipment from Fitness zone.

Wu Chun the Managing Director of Fitness Zone personally presented the contributions of one unit upright bike, two Reebok stability balls, two Reebok exercise floor mats and one Tanita fat analyzer to Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports.

Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman then handed the contributions to Hj Md Hussin bin Hj Yusof, the manager of the centre.

The contribution showed the concern and support from the various sectors in the government’s effort to produce active and healthy senior citizens.

Besides contributing equipment, Wu Chun in an interview said, “It’s not only about the equipment we have donated, I have also proposed to Datin Adina about giving the senior citizens a weekly exercise. Fitness Zone will sponsor the sessions by sending our certified instructors to their centre and make sure the senior citizens too have access to good exercise routines to stay healthy and have an active lifestyle.

“I also hope that this can create awareness so other businesses can sponsor the fitness products and services to the senior citizens so this centre can become a better equipped centre where there is fun and entertainment to keep them happy and healthy,” he added.

Fitness zone “would love to be approached by other schools or organisations in Brunei to support them with such healthy activities”.

The definition for senior citizens is people who are aged 60 years old and above whereby they are recognised by the World Assembly on Aging 1982. In Brunei Darussalam, senior citizens are also given attention by the government through old age pension of $250 per month to citizens and residents of the country who are aged 60 and above since 1985.

Up to June 2013, there are a total of 24,981 senior citizens receiving old age pension.
