BRUNEI Darussalam is sending a four-member fencing team and a golfer to the 2nd Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China.

Mohd Haziq bin Asahrin and Md Anaqi Danish bin Asahrin will compete in the sabre event of fencing. In the foil event is Md Hazeeq Asmu’ie bin Md Fazillah and Md Aizuddin Yaqin Hi Yahaya. In golf, Md Qazzei Fakhri bin Hj Aslimon will be teeing off in the gross event.

To boost the morale and in gratitude to local athletes representing Brunei Darussalam at the international competition, KFC and Fitness Zone yesterday presented sponsored attires to the Brunei contingent.

Dayang Umi Kalthum binti Abdul Karim, the chef de mission, received the attires from Wu Chun, the mega international star, and Jonathan Bong, senior marketing manager, KFC (B) Sdn Bhd. In addition, Wu Chun also gave away three-month free membership to the athletes.

Wu Chun told the athletes “always take the training seriously and all the best. Do the country proud.

“Through the sponsorship of attire, we hope to boost the morale of the team as well as to show our appreciation to the athletes in representing Brunei.”

Meanwhile, Jonathan Bong said, “In many countries, besides having a bigger population to choose talented athletes, sport development can be a costly affair and the governments sometimes collaborate with the private sector to pursue those objectives. Here we (KFC and Fitness Zone) would like to take a small step which we know would encourage other companies to join in and support the cause in the future.”

Dayang Umi Kalthum thanked KFC and Fitness Zone and said the support will help boost the motivation of the athletes in trying to do their best for the country.

On the team performance, she hopes that they can do their personal best and try to obtain a good result in the competition.

As part of KFC and Fitness Zone’s dream to one day see a Brunei team competing in the Olympics in the basketball 3-On-3 category, the next tournament from September 20 – 29 is now open for registration. Participants can call 8713788 or 7182907 for further details.

Two weeks ago, the health club extended its support to the first Bruneian swimmer to compete in the Olympic, national swimmer Anderson Lim, with a lifetime diamond membership.
