TAIWANESE pop group Fahrenheit really knows how to put on an entertaining show. The four dashing entertainers sent hearts racing as they performed before about 7,000 fans at the Bukit Jalil Putra Stadium, Kuala Lumpur, last Saturday night.
Unlike most of their other shows which begin with a big bang, the boyband started their Malaysian show by observing a minute of darkness to demonstrate their support for the global Earth Hour 2009.
The concert, organised by Big Events, was initially scheduled for Nov 15 last year but was postponed due to Wang’s knee injury.
Fahrenheit’s devoted fans at the concert that night came not only from Malaysia, but also from Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, China, the Phillippines and Taiwan.
The four-man band comprising Wu Chun, Jiro Wang, Calvin Chen and Aaron Yan delivered more than 30 songs in Mandarin, English and Cantonese during their three-hour-long concert.
Sharing the stage with a dozen dancers, the boys took to brandishing weaponry like swords, staffs, and nunchucks as part of their act, which featured backdrop and props brought in from Hong Kong.
The four had several changes of costume and showed off at least eight different looks, among them futuristic warrior getup, aviator gear, rocker outfits, and vintage suits complete with white hats.
Four ecstatic female fans – dubbed the boys’ Cinderellas and Snow Whites – also got to perform together with their knights on stage in front of thousands of envious screaming fans.
Apart from their star-struck fans, the lads also had two pretty lasses perform at their show. Local singer Karen Kong opened for the group, singing two of her songs, which really got the audience going.
Fahrenheit’s label-mate Beijing-born singer Jade Liu was their guest performer. She sang a duet with Yan and continued with a medley of three of her hits.
Fans sang along with them on their hits like Wo You Wo De Young (I Have My Youth), Chao Xi Huan Ni (Really Like You) and Zi Dui Ni You Gan Jue (Only Have Feeling for You).
The KL show even saw Fahrenheit singing four new tunes – Ji Mo Bao Zou (Wild Loneliness), Yue Lai Yue Ai (Love You More and More), Zui Jia Ting Zhong (The Best Listener) and Liu Xia Lai (Stay With Me) – from their latest album, Love You More and More, released in January.
The boys also sang a medley of oldies in English – My Girl and Uptown Girl – Cantonese song Ngam Luin Nei (Crush on You) and Mandarin number Lao Shi Qing Ge (Honest Love Song).
Each of the boys had solo performances, showcasing their talents on various musical instruments such as the guitar, drum and piano as well as the turntable.
Playing keyboards and also a grand piano, Yan sang Yi Lu Shang You Ni (You Were There All the Way) before dueting with Liu on their song Ti Amo.
Wang, with his flamboyant stage persona, really rocked the stadium with the electric guitar when he belted out the rock number, Ji You (Liberty).
Besides the usual drum set, Wu also played Japanese taiko drums, which he learnt specially for the Malaysian leg of their gig. He was said to have practised till his back was sore and his hands blistered and bled.
Chen revealed his hip hop inclinations as he delighted fans with his impressive beat-boxing, then went on to demonstrate his scratching skills on the turntable during the encore.
