Fitness Zone, one of the most popular fitness gym in the Sultanate, yesterday signed up to work with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to tackle the problem of obesity by offering a 12-week fitness programme package for participants of Healthy Lifestyle Clinic.
The Healthy Lifestyle Clinic was set up as an MoH initiative to tackle obesity. To further boost the effectiveness of the programme, the ministry appointed Fitness Zone as its partner to provide the facilities and assistance as well as support for the participants of the programme.
To cement the partnership, a Memorandum of Agreement was inked between MoH and Fitness Zone. The guest of honour who witnessed the signing was Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Hj Mohd Yusof, the Minister of Health.
Also present were Dato Paduka Hj Abd Salam bin Abd Momin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and other officials from the ministry.
Dr Zainal Ariffin bin Hj Yahya, Acting Director-General, Ministry of Health signed on behalf of the Ministry of Health while witnessed by Dr Hajah Norhayati bte Hj Md Kassim, the head of Health Promotion Centre. Wu Chun, the locally born Asian superstar who also owns Fitness Zone inked the agreement that was witnessed by Goh Kim Thiam, Manager of Fitness Zone who is also Wu Chun's father.
With the agreement, participants of the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic will be carrying out fitness programme with guidance in a package of 12 weeks and can fully utilise Fitness Zone facilities to reduce weight systematically.
Dr Hajah Norhayati in an interview revealed that there are currently 55 participants in the Healthy Lifestyle Clinic programme.
Wu Chun told Bulletin, "I am very happy that Fitness Zone has signed up to support the Ministry of Health's initiative to tackle the problem of obesity. This initiative also supports the ministry's vision of a healthy nation, a vision that Fitness Zone can relate to because we also want to aspire Bruneian to the world of fitness.
"We also want to help reduce obesity among the people of Brunei and this can only be achieved if we work hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Health.
"We hope that from this point onward, we will build a long partnership with Ministry of Health in promoting healthy lifestyle."
