Set up final showdown against Mochi tomorrow

ROOSTERS easily booked their place in the final of the Bukit Ladang Basketball Championship 2012 with a 112-60 drubbing of Aewon last night at the Fitness Zone Basketball court in Kiulap.

Two players picked up double figures for the Roosters, with Lim Liang Wei recording a game-high 20, while team captain Benjamin Sim added 10 points of his own in the lopsided game.

The Roosters, comprising players on the national squad, got off to a strong start playing man-to-man defence.

They were pressuring their opponents' ball handlers to pick up on turnovers and points off the break.

Lim did the most of the damage early on, scoring six points in the first quarter to give his team a 24-19 lead going into the second quarter.

The game was blown wide open in the second quarter with Aewon failing to keep up with their opponents.

They displayed poor ball movement on offence and struggled to contain their opponents on the defensive end of the court.

Four points by Lim and another two on a break by Mohd Zainul gave Roosters a 16-point 39-23 lead.

The Roosters would go on a run in the final minute to end the period strongly, increasing their cushion to 49-24.

It was pretty much the same affair in the third quarter as the Roosters continued to extend their lead.

Aewon were plagued by turnovers and had trouble passing the ball around.

A basket by Choo Yung Jian in the first minute of the third quarter saw the scoreboard read 53-24.

Aewon also lacked depth on their bench compared to their opponents and looked exhausted at that point.

The quarter ended with the Roosters leading 86-39.

Aewon managed to gain some momentum in the final quarter but it was only because Roosters were fielding players from the second unit.

The gap would eventually prove too much for Aewon though, with Roosters cruising to victory.

The win means Roosters will take on Mochi in the final tomorrow at the Fitness Zone Basketball court in Kiulap at 8.30pm

Mochi booked their berth in the final by defeating Fitness Zone 71-62 in last night's other semi-final.

Esmond Tan scored a game-high 28 points for Mochi, aided by Kevin Tay who netted 16 points.

Fitness Zone was led by Wu Chun who scored 18 points in the loss.
