Following the success of the 3-on-3 street basketball challenge in March this year, KFC and Fitness Zone with Lava Media will once again work together to organise the KFC Fitness Zone Street Basketball Tournament from June 22-24 aiming to reach out to the schools.
Actor and singer Wu Chun was present at a meeting yesterday with national basketball coach Kevin Reece and representatives from schools.
Unlike inter-school basketball tournaments where only one team per school can join, the KFC Fitness Zone Street Basketball Tournament is one where there is no limit to the number of entries a school can send in.
The tournament will be divided into three categories namely Student, Open and Ladies. Students under the age of 21 are welcome to join.
The cash prizes for the Student category will be $750 for first place while second place will get $500 and third place will get $250.
For the Open category, the top team will get a cash prize of $1,000, second place ($750) and third place ($500). All the top three podium winners will also obtain a month's pass to Fitness Zone.
Teams in the Student category will have to pay $80 entry fee while for the Open category, the registration fee is $120.
The deadline for registration is June 10 and forms are available in all KFC branches and Fitness Zone by next week. The upcoming tournament will see even more exciting activities to promote the game. Besides the 3-on-3 competition, there will also be side activities such as slam dunk competition, 3 points shootout to name a few. The organiser is hoping to create a ladies category.
Besides reaching out to schools to join the tournament, the organisers also took the opportunity to discuss with the schools' representatives on how to develop basketball better in Brunei.
KFC, Fitness Zone and Lava Media have committed themselves to set up a fund that would help promote basketball for the purpose of developing basketball in Brunei.
