THE TAIWANESE BOY BAND ADDS SIZZLE TO THE LAUNCH of CANON’S latest MODELSIN ITS DIGITAL IXUS CAMERA RANGE


Popular Taiwanese boy band Fahrenheit lit up the stage at the recent launch of Canon’s latest new models in its digital IXUS camera range.

The boys – Jiro Wang, Aaron Yan, Wu Chun and Calvin Chen – are Canon’s brand ambassadors and were in Malaysia to not only unveil the new models – IXUS 105, IXUS 130 and IXUS 210 – but also to shoot a commercial on the cameras.

"We’re going to boost the sale of the new Canon IXUS models!" exclaimed Wang.

Wu said he liked the new effects added into the new IXUS models, particularly the smart shutter that can detect even a wink to snap a picture. He found that very interesting.

Chen added that the group has visited Malaysia before but only stayed for one or two days. "This is the first time we’re going to stay for three whole days."

The launch was held recently at Canon Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd’s latest concept store in SohoKL at Solaris Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, which will officially open on April 19.

This is Canon’s seventh concept store, in addition to its other concept stores at KLCC, Mid Valley, Pavilion KL, Sunway Pyramid, 1 Utama and e@Curve.

Also present at the launch was Canon Malaysia president and chief executive officer Liew Sip Chon.

Liew said the company is delighted with the entry of the three new IXUS models which come with intelligent features and are equipped with tools for optimum performance. "These new entrants are add-ons to the existing four digital IXUS models to make the full range now a powerful seven."

He said Canon is happy that Fahrenheit was able to attend the launch event, adding that the new models are targeted mainly at the younger generation, that is, those aged between 15 and 35 years.

The new digital IXUS 130, IXUS 105 and IXUS 210 are set to raise the bar with new and enhanced features to improve picture quality and creative expression.

They are also equipped with the Digic 4 image processor that offers faster image processing and improved noise reduction at high ISO sensitivities, and lens-shift type image stabilisation for sharp image quality.

Except for the digital IXUS 105 which comes with 12MP, the other two models can record 14.1 megapixel stills and HD movies (1280 x 720 at 30 fps), and feature Servo AF/AE that tracks a moving subject, maintaining optimum focus and exposure.

New scene and shooting modes have also been added to improve functionality and image quality, and all models in the new range also support the SDXC memory card, facilitating fast data transfer and with capacity of up to 2TB.

The smart auto mode has been enhanced in the latest models, whereby the camera can detect and analyse subject and scene information to derive the most suitable shooting mode for the best results.

New scene modes include the fish-eye effect, where photos simulate the effect of a fish-eye lens while retaining the rectangular aspect of the image without the circular fish-eye distortion; and the miniature effect which gradually blurs the peripheral area of an image to increase emphasis of the subject to make it stand out.

There is also a low light mode where ISO speed can be raised to 6400 to manage difficult shooting conditions.

Another new feature is the smart shutter – beyond pressing the shutter or activating the shutter timer, the shutter can now be set to trigger with the detection of a face, a smile or even a wink!

The new digital IXUS models also come with Canon’s 1+2-year warranty. This extended warranty can be obtained by registrating online at www.canon.com.my.

Canon Marketing sales manager Simon Wong said the company expects to sell at least 10,000 units of the new IXUS range per month.

The recommended retail price of the IXUS 105 is RM799, IXUS 130 (RM1,099) and IXUS 210 (RM1,399).
