Wu Chun (C) celebrates Earth Hour with fans and members of Fitness Zone at its Kiulap branch.
IT WAS lights out for Fitness Zone at its Kiulap branch as it participated in the global Earth Hour event.
According to a press release, the event was held as part of the Fitness Zone community's 'Go Green Campaign', aimed at creating awareness on the importance of energy conservation.
There were about 100 participants to Fitness Zone's Earth Hour programme, which included members, staff and fans of Wu Chun from China, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong, who flew into Brunei to support the event.
Two hundred candles were placed in front of the building to form the shape of a heart and each person got the chance to light a candle.
Global superstar Wu Chun, who is also the managing director of Fitness Zone, stated, "We wanted everyone to take part in the effort (in lighting up the candles) as we want them to remember this day as the day we start to show love and care to our 'sick' planet and to remind everyone that this not a one day thing!"
The theme for Earth Hour this year is the 'I Will If You Will' campaign, aimed at encouraging sustainable action beyond the hour.
In keeping to the spirit of the theme, Fitness Zone created an 'I Will If You Will' challenge in the club, inspiring their members and staff to be a part of their action towards a more sustainable world. Fitness Zone will give free membership for one month to those who come to the club with Earth Hour t-shirts and posters they designed themselves, or they can simply shout proudly "Save Electricity, Save the Planet!" inside the club during the peak hours of 5pm-7pm.
"Fitness Zone is taking a closer look at ways we may waste less and reduce our ecological footprint in our own operations," said the managing director.
"The footprints you leave on the planet today, will affect generations to come, so we must now work together to make this world a better place," he added.
